Home Remedy #1: Bitches Brew (Honey, Garlic, Lemon & Ginger Tea)


(Honey, Garlic, Lemon & Ginger Tea)
3 slices of ginger grated or minced
1 lemon cut 1/2 in slices, juice the other half (use oranges if desired)
3 garlic cloves finely chopped or crushed
1-2 tablespoons RAW uncooked honey
*1/4 teaspon cayene peper (to break a sweat)
*1 shot of whiskey to help sleep
*optional

lemon = Vitamin C
Honey/Ginger = Helps the immune system
Garlic = Helps immune system and has antibiotic properties

simmer water in an open pan w/ ginger for 15-20 minutes.
turn heat off, add lemon, honey (cayene peper if desired) and garlic
let sit for 5 miuntes and
strain into mug (add whiskey if desired)

Note: No animals or horrible, cracked out pop singers were used in testing this home remedy.

Ben Westbeech October 2008 Mix



One of our absolute favorite DJ/Producers has to be Ben Westbeech. His influences span from drum & bass, house, rock n roll, punk, jazz and hip hop.


His music has appeared on such labels as Audio Zoo Recordings, Full Cycle, Innerground Records, Ministry Of Sound, Ninja Tune, Plastic City, Studio !K7 as well as on Giles Peterson label Brownswood Recordings.

Recently Ben appeared on the track "Squeeze me" on Kraak and Smaak's album titled Plastic People, released in April 2008 and has also produced tracks with the likes of DJ Die and Marky.

The term "American Dream" was first used by James Truslow Adams in his 1931 novel, "The Epic of America. Truslow wrote of "that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone", a land of "opportunity for each according to ability or achievement." This was "not a dream of motor cars and high wages merely, but a dream of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature…" that , "of which they are innately capable…recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position."

Since his prolific writing, the "American Dream" has evolved. From tails of streets paved with gold, to the land of opportunity where all men are created equal. But these stoic clich├ęs are just another fading portrait of the once land of the free, another celluloid memory cast away in this digital diatribe. With the on set of war America's youth has come to the realization that the powers that be do not regard our civil liberties as free and given. Now begins a separation of a generation, the duality of man. This new "American Dream", the dream of a nation of people, born to rock, born to beat drop. A land of hip hop, house music non-stop, electro bebop, dance till the floor drops, till the neighbors knock, till the panties sop, and skill decides who's on top. Where street corner poets scream they can't take it, cause where mad as hell and we don't give a fuck, cause from this moment on no more wars, no more gas powered merchants of mayhem, just laptops & turntable architects of sex.

Here at White House Headquarters we have been scouring what's left of this country to build a production team of skilled musicians to represent the new "American Dream". Covering every angle from party rocking to top notch club banging production, this group of undeniable American youths are hear to wave our great American flag with a fuck you lets dance mind set. For the land of the free and the home of the brave this blinged out team is here to ignite the females and dance floors across this great nation.

In Gibson's Neuromancer, when Case & Molly meet the two surviving founders of Zion, there is talk of hearing a "mighty dub" in the Babel of tongues signaling the "final days". If indeed we're living in these 'end times', as many predict, then there can be no more of an appropriate soundtrack for the coming apocalypse than The Bug's "London Zoo".

The Bug is the main project for Kevin Martin, a producer who over the years has also been behind a diverse range of projects. He is part of Techno Animal / Ice / God (all with Justin Broadrick of Godflesh / Jesu), King Midas Sound, Razor X Productions (with The Rootsman), Pressure and Ladybug to name a few. Then there is the running of his Pathological Records label, collaborations with noise jazz outfit 16-17, Pete "Sonic Boom" Kemper's E.A.R project, John Zorn, Kevin Shields, El-P, Antipop Consortium. He has recorded for labels as diverse as Virgin, Rephlex, Position Chrome/Mille Plateaux, Word Sound, Hyperdub, City Slang, Tigerbeat 6, Grand Royal, and now Ninja Tune. He has been personally asked to remix Thom Yorke, Grace Jones, Einsturzende Neubauten and Primal Scream, and has compiled jazz & dub compilations for Virgin Records. The new album “London Zoo” is the fruition of all these activities…

"London Zoo" was born of three key moments. An introduction to the thriving Dub-Step scene (of which The Bug is very much a pioneer before it carried a name) and it's key producers (via Kode 9) where Kevin realized there was others on the same sonic trajectory as himself, an introduction to Warrior Queen via his work with Wayne Lonesome on the Razor X Productions project, and a Mary Anne Hobb's Breezeblock session which introduced him to Flowdan (Roll Deep), and Ricky Ranking. All three of which figure heavily in the end result and live presentation.

Although the obvious entry point to the album will be the Dub-Step tag, particularly after the success of the three lead up singles ('Jah War', 'Skeng', and 'Poison Dart' in that scene) it's a record that clearly reaches past and brings together/celebrates reference points from dancehall, grime, hip-hop, and noise onslaughts. A record that could have only come out of London sound-system culture but whose appeal spans past any singular city or scene.

From the opening strains of "Angry" (featuring reggae legend Tippa Irie) it's clear that the world has been served notice from the heart of the UK capital. A position further strengthened as Ricky Ranking (best known for his work with Roots Manuva), Flowdan, Warrior Queen, Spaceape, Roger Robinson, Killa P, and Aya step up to lay waste to the boombastic rhythms put before them, eventually culminating in "Judgement" where Ricky Ranking leaves us with a prophecy ... "so much people are losing their minds, because we're living in a serious time. I guess it come in like a judgement sign, the people have killing on their mind".... living in end times indeed. Best start building the Marcus Garvey tug now.

Tucked away in a private studio named Old Soul, in Catskill, NY the two musical forces behind Ratatat, Evan and Mike, have collaborated yet again to redefine the current state of instrumental music. This time, the album is called LP3 and though it doesn't use much in the way of hi-tech recording equipment it's still laced with a unique balance of penetrating beats and ethereal riffs. However they broaden their palette of sounds this time around by relying more on keyboard instruments than guitars. Don't worry, Mike's characteristic guitar style is still present on this record but there are also an abundance of new textures emanating from the likes of a harpsichord, a wurlitzer, a mellotron and even a grand piano.

Anonymous street artist Banksy has declared that if any work of his isn’t authenticated by Pest Control, a committee formed for that very purpose, then it’s not worth the wall it’s painted on. An “art world source” told the First Post: “The works are made for specific sites, and taking them is tantamount to theft. That is why Banksy has approved this authentication system. He certainly doesn’t want the people who’ve removed them making money out of it.” Three unauthenticated works supposedly by Banksy that went under the hammer at Bloomsbury Auctions in London last week ended up unsold, with one withdrawn before the bidding had even started.

Like any artist, music has always been a passion for Mr Page (which, in case you were wondering, is his real name). His father’s varied tastes were a massive influence as Benny grew up, leading him to take up both the drums and guitar at the age of 12, but it wasn’t long before he began to discover the growing British underground sound. Inspired by early Jungle releases such as A Zone’s “Calling all the People” and “Worries in the Dance” by Nu Blood, Benny began making beats using a sequencer on his Dad’s PC at the age of 15 and a year later began a two-year music technology course. As his appearances at his part-time job became rarer due to production-induced ‘sickness’, Benny’s ear-catching rolling style of beats developed. By 2002, he was ready to let the rest of the world hear his unique sound and it was South London-based label Cutterz Choice who first noticed his talent. Impresario Spoona brought his first tune “Chainsaws” to wax a year later and Benny followed this up with a number of releases in 2004 including a remix of Aphrodite’s “Stalker” and the anthem “Sneaker Pimp”, which brought his name to international attention thanks to its appearances on John Peel’s Radio 1 playlist.

Along with a string of club bangers on Technique, Bassline remains one of the most versatile men in the d’n’b game, with releases on virtually every major label in the genre including Protoype, Full Cycle, BreakBeat Koas, V Recordings, Good Looking, Creative Source and Trouble on Viny /Flex.

As a DJ, Smith is prolific as ever, spinning the Technique sound over virtually every continent, including appearances in America, Canada, Australia, France, Italy, Germany, Russia, Iceland, Spain, Holland, Sweden, Ireland, Czech Republic, Brazil, Poland, Switzerland, Uruguay, Norway, Italy as well representing for some of the biggest UK organisations such as Slammin Vinyl, Accelerated Culture, One Nation, Detonate, Movement – the list goes on.

Currently Smith is hard at work playing out every weekend in the UK and abroad, whilst spending his weekdays locked away in the studio with Drumsound focussing on producing tracks for their next album out in 2008.

With so much going on, it’s almost unbelievable to think Simon has time to run his famed Interface club night in Derby, yet true to form, the multi-talented man throws some of the finest d’n’b shindigs in the country. With so many strings to his bow, there’s little doubt this pioneer will continue to set the standard for years to come.
