If you’re in San Diego for Comic-Con this month, be sure to watch the skies — or rather, the rooftops — for signs of an extraterrestrial invasion.

French street artist Invader has installed 21 ceramic tile recreations of the iconic Space Invaders alien all around San Diego.

The project is part of the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego’s upcoming exhibition Viva la Revolucion: A Dialogue with the Urban Landscape. The show, including works from renowned street artists such as Banksy and Shepard Fairey, opens July 18th.

What do you think of The X Factor [British equivalent of American Idol]?
Oh God, I'm so bored by it already, people need to get over it. X Factor shit's irrelevant. I'm more concerned by how someone like Kesha can so blatantly copy Uffie. Everyone's fine with it. Not a fucking lawsuit in sight.

Do you think those programmes and the internet have destroyed the mythology around popstars?
I don't know. Again, there'd Lady Gaga - people say we're similar, that we both mix all these things in the pot and spit them out differently, but she spits it out exactly the same! None of her music's reflective of how weird she wants to be or thinks she is. She models herself on Grace Jones and Madonna, but the music sounds like 20-year-old Ibiza music, you know? She's not progressive, but she's a good mimic. She sounds more like me than I fucking do! That's a talent and she's got a great team behind her, but she's the industry last's stab at making itself important - saying, 'You need our money behind you, the endorsements, the stadiums' Respect to her, she's keeping a hundred thousand people in work, but my belief is: Do It Yourself.

Home Remedy #1: Bitches Brew (Honey, Garlic, Lemon & Ginger Tea)

3 slices of ginger grated or minced
1 lemon cut 1/2 in slices, juice the other half (use oranges if desired)
3 garlic cloves finely chopped or crushed
1-2 tablespoons RAW uncooked honey
*1/4 teaspon cayene peper (to break a sweat)
*1 shot of whiskey to help sleep
*optional

lemon = Vitamin C
Honey/Ginger = Helps the immune system
Garlic = Helps immune system and has antibiotic properties

simmer water in an open pan w/ ginger for 15-20 minutes.
turn heat off, add lemon, honey (cayene peper if desired) and garlic
let sit for 5 miuntes and
strain into mug (add whiskey if desired)

Note: No animals or horrible, cracked out pop singers were used in testing this home remedy.

In Gibson's Neuromancer, when Case & Molly meet the two surviving founders of Zion, there is talk of hearing a "mighty dub" in the Babel of tongues signaling the "final days". If indeed we're living in these 'end times', as many predict, then there can be no more of an appropriate soundtrack for the coming apocalypse than The Bug's "London Zoo".

The Bug is the main project for Kevin Martin, a producer who over the years has also been behind a diverse range of projects. He is part of Techno Animal / Ice / God (all with Justin Broadrick of Godflesh / Jesu), King Midas Sound, Razor X Productions (with The Rootsman), Pressure and Ladybug to name a few. Then there is the running of his Pathological Records label, collaborations with noise jazz outfit 16-17, Pete "Sonic Boom" Kemper's E.A.R project, John Zorn, Kevin Shields, El-P, Antipop Consortium. He has recorded for labels as diverse as Virgin, Rephlex, Position Chrome/Mille Plateaux, Word Sound, Hyperdub, City Slang, Tigerbeat 6, Grand Royal, and now Ninja Tune. He has been personally asked to remix Thom Yorke, Grace Jones, Einsturzende Neubauten and Primal Scream, and has compiled jazz & dub compilations for Virgin Records. The new album “London Zoo” is the fruition of all these activities…

"London Zoo" was born of three key moments. An introduction to the thriving Dub-Step scene (of which The Bug is very much a pioneer before it carried a name) and it's key producers (via Kode 9) where Kevin realized there was others on the same sonic trajectory as himself, an introduction to Warrior Queen via his work with Wayne Lonesome on the Razor X Productions project, and a Mary Anne Hobb's Breezeblock session which introduced him to Flowdan (Roll Deep), and Ricky Ranking. All three of which figure heavily in the end result and live presentation.

Although the obvious entry point to the album will be the Dub-Step tag, particularly after the success of the three lead up singles ('Jah War', 'Skeng', and 'Poison Dart' in that scene) it's a record that clearly reaches past and brings together/celebrates reference points from dancehall, grime, hip-hop, and noise onslaughts. A record that could have only come out of London sound-system culture but whose appeal spans past any singular city or scene.

From the opening strains of "Angry" (featuring reggae legend Tippa Irie) it's clear that the world has been served notice from the heart of the UK capital. A position further strengthened as Ricky Ranking (best known for his work with Roots Manuva), Flowdan, Warrior Queen, Spaceape, Roger Robinson, Killa P, and Aya step up to lay waste to the boombastic rhythms put before them, eventually culminating in "Judgement" where Ricky Ranking leaves us with a prophecy ... "so much people are losing their minds, because we're living in a serious time. I guess it come in like a judgement sign, the people have killing on their mind".... living in end times indeed. Best start building the Marcus Garvey tug now.

Anonymous street artist Banksy has declared that if any work of his isn’t authenticated by Pest Control, a committee formed for that very purpose, then it’s not worth the wall it’s painted on. An “art world source” told the First Post: “The works are made for specific sites, and taking them is tantamount to theft. That is why Banksy has approved this authentication system. He certainly doesn’t want the people who’ve removed them making money out of it.” Three unauthenticated works supposedly by Banksy that went under the hammer at Bloomsbury Auctions in London last week ended up unsold, with one withdrawn before the bidding had even started.

Like any artist, music has always been a passion for Mr Page (which, in case you were wondering, is his real name). His father’s varied tastes were a massive influence as Benny grew up, leading him to take up both the drums and guitar at the age of 12, but it wasn’t long before he began to discover the growing British underground sound. Inspired by early Jungle releases such as A Zone’s “Calling all the People” and “Worries in the Dance” by Nu Blood, Benny began making beats using a sequencer on his Dad’s PC at the age of 15 and a year later began a two-year music technology course. As his appearances at his part-time job became rarer due to production-induced ‘sickness’, Benny’s ear-catching rolling style of beats developed. By 2002, he was ready to let the rest of the world hear his unique sound and it was South London-based label Cutterz Choice who first noticed his talent. Impresario Spoona brought his first tune “Chainsaws” to wax a year later and Benny followed this up with a number of releases in 2004 including a remix of Aphrodite’s “Stalker” and the anthem “Sneaker Pimp”, which brought his name to international attention thanks to its appearances on John Peel’s Radio 1 playlist.

For nearly 8 Years (7 years and 10 months to be exact) Deep in San Diego has been a staple of Southern California Drum and Bass. Deep has been the first to break many deejays, tracks and careers. Without deep many of the acts we have seen would not have been possible. So many friends, so many sounds, and too many memories will be lost.

After this Thursday many of those who religiously got their fix of drum and bass, socializing and relief from life’s pressures will no longer have a place to call home.

First and foremost... I want to thank Kris, Syndo and Sklyer for bringing me on board. w/ out your offer, i would not have had such an amazing opportunity to meet and play w/ some of the nicest and genuine people (especially all of my so cal fam). Delano, Ridda and Jason, thanks for your involvement!!

second thanks to all of so cal for their love and support!!! w/ out the attendees and talent that rolled through we wouldnt have been shit! I won't make a list in fear of forgetting anyone...

third DEEP is ending for no other reason than the fact that Kris and myself feel it's time to move on... we had an awesome (close to) 8 year run and have brought out alot of the djs and producers we looked upto.

so with that said, we look forward to doing it one last time!!! Come down witness the Stateside Pre-party, Say HAPPY BDAY to Wallkrawler and Farewell to DEEP!!!

Artists Mukesh, Mohammed Rafi, Sade, Michael Jackson, Al Martino, Tony styles of music ranging from Classical Asian Kawali to Rare Groove, Rock to Indie and Jazz and Blues found their way into their lives and
create and share their own musical vision was born.

Child Support kicked off his career under the guise ‘Zoobie MC’ over the sets of Nicky Black Market, A-sides, London Electricity, High Fabio, and Asian producer Talvin Singh. Meanwhile Crisis Loan had up his hard earned pennies to buy a set of turntables and the lads their hand to DJing. Of course from there the natural progression their own music and in ’99 the brothers pooled their resources and themselves a studio PC and got cracking with Cuebase, Reason and other software they could get their hands on. With a veritable virtual sounds they soon got picked up by none other than the legendary Creative Source imprint and Social Security had their first of many releases.

Following on from that impressive start Social Security now have Hospital sub-label MASH, DOA’s Under Construction, Formation, Structure, Exceptional, Diagram and Jungle legends Congo Natty collective belt. Not that they’re resting on their laurels, with their Benefit Beats already onto its third release and more planned on the way than you can shake a sonic stick at, Social Security are at the top of their game.

Both Crisis Loan and Child Support class themselves as “21st Century Producers” and strive to create all kinds of beats, everything from Drum & Bass, Hip-Hop and R&B to Bhangra and Eastern Drum & Breaks, that serves them well, bringing diversity and fresh flavours with production.

Towards the end of 2001, and the start of 2002 something very exciting was happening in the world of drum and bass. For one man, years of hard work in the studio where finally beginning to get the recognition they deserved, and a fresh exciting sound was gradually filtering into sets of all the top flight DJs. One man and one album was about to, as one veteran put it, “change the game”.

Twisted signed to Formation Records back in 1998, and for his debut produced ‘Wales’, the biggest track on the now legendary “World of Drum and Bass” album. For years he sat back perfecting his roll, waiting his turn as deep, dark, industrial sounds dominated all the big raves. Early tracks such as ‘Boom Shanx bw/ Robitix’ on 5HQ, ‘Nail Bomb’ and the now much sought after ‘Twisted Indivudaltron EP’ featuring ‘Sick Bag’ and ‘Crankshaft’ however caught the ears of some of the top dogs, finding their way into the boxes of Grooverdier, Shy FX, Ed Rush and Optical amongst others.

Having released a few tracks on other labels, Twisted decided it was time to start his own label as a side project to work he was doing on Formation. Around the start of 2000 he set up Grid Recordings, bringing in his old friend from the pirate station Shadow FM, Zen for the first release. Releases from himself, Rayner, Accidental Heroes and a then unknown DJ Hazard followed over the next couple of years.

Seeing that he was onto a good thing with his new apprentice in 2001 DJ SS entrusted the seminal ‘Lighter’ into the hands of the Twisted one to see if he could bring it up to date. Whilst working on his debut album he pieced together two of the biggest tunes of that year in the form if his ‘Lighter remix’ and the ‘F-Word’. The next move Twisted made was one not even the best marketing man could dream up. Whilst most opted for the standard sultry D&B look for their photo shoots Twisted had the bright idea of crashing into a field of sheep, in a wheel chair, wearing a gimp mask and a straight jacket. The ‘Tooled Up!’ LP had arrived.

Proving that he could mix the rough with smooth the ‘Tooled Up!’ LP on Formation Records showcased the Twisted sound - from the off beat tribal rhythms of ‘Gimp Mask’ (still championed by DJ Marky to this day), the smooth liquid of ‘Dafodills’, the Full Cyclist ‘Crap Rinse Out’, along with Groooveriders favourite, the sub heavy ‘Gusset Gravy’ Twisted had crafted an album that would get heads talking, and the crowds jumping.

Following the success of ‘Tooled Up!’, Twisted found himself in the spotlight, as remix offers and DJ bookings began to flood in. In the months before and after Tooled Up dropped, Twisted reworked J Majik's ‘Tell Me’, Jaydee’s ‘Plastic Dreams’, Benny Blanco's ‘Remember Me’, DJ SS’s ‘Rollidge’ all to spectacular effect, with his re-lick of Simon Bassline Smth's ‘Junglist’ even finding it’s way into the Top 75.

Having been the DJ before he was the producer, playing on Shadow FM, Ruud Awakening and other pirate stations in London before his move to Leicester, Twisted was now able to showcase his skills on the decks all around the world. Picking up regular plays at all the major UK promotions including Slammin Vinyl, One Nation, Telepathy, Best of British, United Dance, Accelerated Culture, as well as residencies at all the Formation and World of Drum & Bass nights all over the World, Twisted is now an exclusive member of the top flight of D&B DJs. Always armed with a bag of fresh dubs to unleash on the crowds, his explosive partnership with MC Biggie has smashed many venues over the past few years. In this time Twisted has also been fortunate enough to have his travels take him all over the world, notching up stamps in his passport and champion hangovers everywhere from Germany to Estonia, USA to Australia, Spain to Brazil and pretty much everywhere else in-between.

As with any popular style of music, when something is successful, the masses will follow, and soon the Twisted clones started to fill the shelves of all the record shops. Not a man known for his restraint, in 2003 Twisted got back in the dungeon and cooked up a message to all those he felt were ripping his sound. ‘Bandwagon Blues’ exploded onto the scene and instantly became an anthem with rewind after rewind ensuring this was a front runner in every DJs set. Off the back of his previous success and other tracks such as ‘Rusty Sherrif's Badge’, ‘Heavy Metal’, and ‘Hand Grenade (feat APB)’ Twisted found himself up for 3 categories at the 2003 Accelerated Culture Awards. Much to his disappointment his hectic touring schedule meant that he couldn’t make it on the event, but MC Biggie stepped up on the night to receive his awards not only for Best Tune for ‘Bandwagon Blues’, but also Best Producer of 2003.

Since then Twisted has not stopped. 2004 was filled with tours and DJ bookings that took up the majority of his time. As a result of this his output from the studio quietened down as he spread the Twisted sound around the world, gaining new fans in every city. He still found time for releases on Formation, New Identity, Reformed though, including his collaboration with DJ SS and MC Skibadee on ‘Deal with the Matter’, and his remix of DJ SS’s ‘Like a Bird’. Tracks also appeared on his own Grid and Zombie imprints as well as remixes for TOV, Architecture, and his massive ‘World of Music’ re-lick on Back to Basics amongst others.

In 2005 Twisted’s focus began to turn towards his own baby, Grid Recordings. Over the previous two years the label had been clocking up some tasty releases from the likes of Total Science, Baron, Zen, Influx Datum, Surge, Ron, Simon Bassline Smith as well, of course tracks from Twisted and Biggie. Alongside the newly set up Zombie Records, which was to cater strictly for the dancefloor, Twisted began getting his house in order. An album compilation set things going nicely and the ‘Hung, Drawn & Slaughtered’ project pulled in tracks from new faces on the block such as Heist, Nightwalker and Dirty Fingers alongside the usual suspects Total Science, JB & Spice, DJ SS as well as a number from XRS. This was as well as calling in Zen, Generation Dub and original veteran DJ Kane to step up on remix duties. A triple vinyl and double CD which featured MC Biggie were well received by fans and press and got the label moving in the right direction.

Having moved back down to London, Twisted is now turning all his attention to building Grid and Zombie, and with a new team behind him things are looking up for 2006. With fresh talent from close to home, and also the other side of the world to feature on the label, alongside the likes of DJ Marky and Clipz who are also soon to feature, the Grid camp are stepping up a gear. Whilst still hitting the road on a regular basis Dj’ing up and down the UK and abroad, Twisted is also now back in the studio, with fresh enthusiasm and fresh goals.

Still able to conjure up those crazy names to compliment those crazy b-lines, you know when you tune in your radio and hear names like ‘Swan Cake’, ‘Bog Monster’ and ‘Magnum Juice’, there is only one Individual behind them – Twisted Individual

Most of the time I try to avoid Starbucks.
Not just because of their divide and conquer attitude towards mom & pop coffee shops, but because their coffee is not as good as people think. By over-roasting and doubling the recipe, they are perveting our taste buds.

But we all have our weakness and every now and then I do have a craving for a foo-foo soy tofffe nut latte.

So this morning, upon arrival to work, a co-worker shows me Starbucks rebranding and their attempt to change it's image.

2 ironic things to note:

1) Their departure from the green logo.
Does this mean that Starbucks is admitting they never had, nor ever will, any intentions to be environmentally friendly in this day and age of everyone going "GREEN".

2) Their return to the whorish spread eagle siren... Luring sailors (consumers) to their ultimate demise of being hooked
on strong, over-roasted and over priced coffee.

An article on the Wall Street Journal's Buzz Watch"
mentions that CEO Howard Schultz expects the retro cup to draw attention. “I think the logo’s going to be somewhat disruptive,” Mr. Schultz said. “We want people to talk about it.”

So if you are a regular patron of BAR DYNAMITE like myself, you were probably gut wrenched by the fact that your late night drunken source for food... Valentines closed... (Probably more gut wrenched by he food though)

Well fret no more... not only do you have a place to grind some food... but a BETTER place!!

My girlfriend and I went there this afternoon...

Absolutely love the concept... cool decoration and great food.

they had a special menu and free drinks (soda, horchada, orange bang etc.) in celebration of their grand opening...

Angela wanted the DDT Baked Potato but unfortunately they were still baking
so she asked if she could have DDT fries instead... and they obliged.
Imagine SHRIMP, STEAK, BACON, MUSHROOMS and their SAUCE on a Baked Potato (or in this case fries)...
good lord that was a lot of food...

I had the Quesadilla w/ chicken, onions and peppers.... can't remember the what they called it but it was very tasty.

two highlights of the salsa bar...
pineapple salsa and the hot carrots (we're talking HOT!!!)

we even saw the owner of BAR DYNAMITE ducking in to get a bite to eat!

oh and the owners are SUPER COOL people...

so I give this joint 2 and a half Huricanranas out of 3

84 year old Actor Allan Melvin, best known as Sam the Butcher on "The Brady Bunch," died of cancer Thursday.
